Caribbean Harmony

This Cool Caribbean CS was like the first thing I ran through my CuttleBug when I first got it!! I used it for this card and ended up going w/ one of the SCS Color Challenges from a couple of weeks ago.

I kept the rest of the card rather simple. I used a Basic Black marker and Cool Caribbean ink and a blender pen (you can see how to do that here) to ink up the stamp, then after stamping it I added a few doodles w/ the Black marker (a LOT of ppl ask me what it is I use when I doodle things on my cards - well that's it! Just my SU! Basic Black marker. It works for me - I think eventually tho I'll get a couple of black artist markers, not sure which kind as of yet.)

For the sentiment - I stamped it then punched it out w/ one of my EK Success punches (I *think* I used the 7/8" one but it could have been the 1" circle - I can't remember!!) and then sponged the edges. I then glued that onto a tag I made w/ the CuttleBug Tiny Tags dies (I used a lightweight chipboard coaster from StarLitStudio for the tag and covered it in Basic Black Craft Ink then heat to set.).

I love this SAB set - it's definitely my favorite out of all the SAB selections this year!! :o)

I quickly sat down today to make a card for this week's SCS Sketch Challenge. I got it done and wanted to post it ASAP as I need to get back to cleaning up the house b/c we have a bunch of ppl coming over tonight!

So here it is:

 

STAMPS: shopabellas by Stamping Bella, large oval by a*muse. CS: Whisper White, Cool Caribbean, Chocolate Chip, Certainly Celery, Patterned Paper by Reminiscence. INK: Palette Hybrid Noir (Stewart Superior), Certainly Celery. ACCESSORIES: CuttleBug A2 Friends Words embossing folder, Prima Flowers, Bazzil Brads, Ribbon (Michaels), Prismacolor Pencils.

These bella stamps from Stamping Bella are just too fun. I *think* that this shopabellas one comes in a larger size too!! I stamped it then masked the images and stamped the a*muse large oval stamp to ground them (you can learn how to make a mask here). I then colored them in w/ Prismacolor pencils (and NO Gamsol *shock*!! I didn't have time to do all the blending and whatnot and w/ these small images time is a must.)

The rest of the card was pretty simple - just a matter of following the sketch challenge. All the colors were inspired by this fun patterned paper that I picked up at my local scrapbook store a couple of weeks ago (it's from a company called Reminiscence?? I'd never heard of it before but the paper sure is cute!).

I used my CuttleBug A2 embossing folder - Friends Words - for this card - it seemed to suit this stamp to a T!!

Now I have to run and go mop some floors - joy. *wink*

Delight In Life

This was just a quick simple card I made for this week's SCS color challenge. I used a re-inker and Blender Pen to make my own 'In Color Marker' to color in the flower, and for the sentiment I inked it up in Cool Caribbean then used a black marker over all the parts I wanted black - all easy-peisy!!! :o)

Hopefully I'll have more "interesting stuff" to share later today or tomorrow - I haven't been feeling good today and Veronica got sick yesterday (tho she's fine today so for her it was only a few hours that she wasn't feeling well), and I'm still in the process of cleaning the house.

Tonight I'm going to attempt to take the Christmas tree down and get all that stuff put away (I've been putting it off b/c of all the sickness and also b/c it's so depressing to take it all down and everything looks so bare and empty afterward LOL!!).

Better Late Than Never!!

I know I said I'd post these cards yesterday - in fact I said I'd get a lot of things done yesterday - when in reality I did NOTHING!! Veronica is still pretty sick and wanted to sit on my lap most of the day and cuddle, and even Josie wanted to cuddle here and there too - so that's what I did! And it was worth it!! *grin*

So anyway I made 2 cards the other night while I was up w/ Veronica - I went w/ the Color Combo and Sketch Challenges posted this week on SCS (great way to get the creativity flowing - and I sure needed all the help I could get that night!!).

Here's my first card:

SETS: Happy Harmony, Handle With Care, Linen. CS: Sage Shadow, Rose Red, Blush Blossom, Chocolate Chip. INK: Sage Shadow, Rose Red, Blush Blossom, Chocolate Chip. ACCESSORIES: Very Vanilla Pocket Notes, Moss Gingham Ribbon, Rose Red Brads, 1 1/4" Circle Punch, Sage Shadow Eyelet, Sponge Daubers.

I used the new SAB set Happy Harmony for this card. I inked up the flowers w/ Stampin' Write Markers and stamped them onto the Pocket Note. I then sponged all the edges, added some ribbon (also sponged to make the difference between the moss color ribbon and the sage shadow CS less noticeable *wink*) and and a couple of brads.

I made sure to be careful when gluing the pocket note to the other layers to NOT glue where it closes so that it can be opened and either a "secret" message or something like a gift certificate can be tucked in there.

The rest of the card came together pretty well after that. I stamped Linen on the Blush CS (tho you prolly can't see it!), and sponged *most* of the edges of all the layers.

Instead of stamping the 'With All My Heart" stamp directly onto the Blush CS, I stamped it on the Sage, cut it out, then crumpled it out and flattened it before gluing it onto the card. It has a nice textured look and feel to it - I had originally tried stamping it on twill w/ craft ink but b/c it's such a solid stamp I wasn't pleased w/ the results and went w/ this instead.

Then I decided to try a second card:

SETS: Carte Postale, Linen, French Flair. CS: Confetti White, Whisper White, Rose Red, Blush Blossom, Sage Shadow, Enchante DS Paper. INK: Black Stazon, Blush Blossom, Rose Red, Sage Shadow, Chocolate Chip. ACCESSORIES: Vintage Brads, Paper Piercer, Cutter Kit, Stamping Sponge, Chocolate Grosgrain Ribbon, Narrow Wine Organdy Ribbon, dimensionals.

The Carte Postale set and all the stuff that matches w/ it is SO not my style - but I thought I'd get it all anyway and see what I could do with them!!

I stamped the flower stamp onto Confetti White CS w/ Black Stazon, watercolored it w/ re-inkers then cut it out. I then inked up the stamp again using markers, stamped it and cut it out. I stuck the watercolored flower on using a brad (from the Vintage Brads pack. I then matted it onto Rose Red CS that I distressed and adhered that to the Blush CS using dimensionals.

The Sage CS was stamped w/ both the Linen and the French Flair BG's - I LOVE the look of the Linen BG paired w/ other BG's - it gives a really nice textured/cloth-like effect.

Even tho it's not my style - I'm pleased w/ this attempt! We'll see tho if I can come up w/ anything else that I'll like! :o)

And another one...

For this one I used today's Sketch Challenge as well as yesterdays Color Challenge:

 

STAMPS: Winter House, sentiment, and Snowflakes by GinaK Designs, Trees BG by SonLight Impressions. CS: Whisper White, Cool Caribbean, Real Red. INK: Palette Hybrid Noir (can get from TAC), Real Red, Cool Caribbean, Garden Green Marker, Barely Banana Marker, ColorBox Cat's Eye in Alabaster. ACCESSORIES: Coluzzle, Marvy Giga Scallop Oval Punch, SU! Oval Punches, White Gel Pen, Paper Piercer, Sponge Daubers, Ribbon (Michaels), Real Red Brads, Dimensionals, Stickles.

This card was pretty easy to do as most of the work was done by going w/ the color and sketch challenges. I find that what takes the most time is picking out the colors and deciding on the layout when I'm making cards. I *should* have been able to do it pretty quickly but I had to re-do several parts as I kept getting red ink on my fingers and smudging all the white CS!! (**Note to self - when using red ink do not try to multitask!!!)

I stamped the Winter House onto an oval of Whisper White cut w/ my Coluzzle, then colored it in w/ markers (I used the Barely Banana on the windows to give them a subtle "glow").

For the three sentiments I stamped the first part, cleaned the stamp (REALLY well), then stamped the rest underneath so that I could punch them out w/ the small oval Stampin' Up! punch and mat them w/ the larger oval. I added Candy Cane Stickles (from StarLitStudio) to all the exclamation points as well. I then edged all the ovals w/ Colorbox Cat's Eye ink in Alabaster to make them stand out a little more.

It's a little hard to tell but I stamped the snowflakes on the strip of Real Red CS and sponged all the edges.

All the sentiments as well as the main image are adhered to the card using dimensionals. Once I got it all put together I added the Stickles (as they take a while to dry) - on the Winter House image I used Icicle Stickles on the snow.

I also wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who sent me get well soon comments and e-mails!! I feel a bit better today but am still not fully over this bug - and now Tim's getting sick!! :o( I just hope he has a cold and won't get the flu .

Challenges...

I LOVE doing all the different challenges on SCS - but sadly haven't been able to do any for a couple of weeks now. I decided that today I *had* to sit down and do at least ONE challenge - so I picked this week's Color Challenge (Cool Caribbean, Real Red and Whisper White - I added a touch of black just b/c) and made this:

 

(All Supplies Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted) SETS: Blooming with Happiness, Fancy Flexible Phrases, Paisley. CS: Whisper White, Watercolor Paper, Cool Caribbean, Real Red, Black. INK: Palette Hybrid Noir (Stewart Superior), Cool Caribbean, Real Red. ACCESSORIES: Marvy Punches, Paper Piercer, White Gel Pen, Black Eyelets, Ribbon (white polka dot organdy and Caribbean colored ribbon is from Michaels. Red grosgrain is SU), 3/4" circle punch, jump ring (no source), dimensionals, ticket corner punch, AquaPainter, Sponge Daubers, Sakura Black Glaze Pen.

The dress was stamped in black then watercolored w/ re-inkers and my AquaPainter. I then enhanced the flower centers and the hanger w/ my Sakura Black Glaze pen (I bought it from StarLitStudio).

I punched out the dress and matted it onto Real Red CS that was punched w/ the Marvy Giga Scallop Circle.

I HAD to use Paisley w/ this card - it was just *begging* to be inked up!

I made the little "tag" w/ the 3/4" circle punch (punching the CS AFTER I stamped the sentiment to get it where I wanted it) and the 1/16" punch and used a jump ring (you can get packs of those at Michaels in the beads/jewelery etc section) to attach it to the ribbon.

It's Been A While...

Since I last stamped (about a week or so) and I can feel it. I have SO many things to do and not much time to stamp right now but I so *wanted* to play w/ my new sets so I took a few minutes and made this:

What's funny is this looks better in the pic than it does in real life - I'm serious!! I had a hard time making this - I was using this week's SCS Color Challenge and I had SO much difficulty concentrating as I have a ton of things on my plate right now (not to mention I should be peeling veggies and cleaning house right now!) and I've so lost my stamping groove. Oh well I tried!! After tonight tho I should have a little extra "me time".

So anywho - I used the new Big Pieces set from the Winter Mini (I LOVE that it perfectly matches Little Pieces - this will be so awesome for scrapbooking!). I colored the images in w/ markers, stamped them onto Whisper White CS and cut them out.

The Bordering Blue piece behind the flowers was DTP'd (Direct to Paper) w/ a Bordering Blue Stampin' Spot that I used a circular motion on. I made "grass" by only coloring a portion of one of the stamps w/ a marker and stamping it over and over, I then DTP'd the Celery CS as well.

I free-hand faux stitched the stems and wasn't planning on using the gel pen but it looked really bare w/out it. Once I did that I matted it on Elegant Eggplant and distressed the edges and added the ribbon.

The card base was stamped w/ the large circle from the set (I stamped it off once first to soften the color), then I added the strip of Certainly Celery CS and the sentiment from Quick Thinking.

I promise I'll make something better to upload next time! I'm off to peel and chop a bunch of veggies (aren't you jealous?? *wink*)

Hip Hip Hooray!!

Ahhhhhhh.......

I haven't done a challenge card in almost 2 weeks and it feels SO good to get back to doing them!!

I did this one for this week's Sketch and Color Challenges. I doubt I would have ever put these colors together but they look great! :o)

First I stamped the beaver on Whisper White and masked him so I could stamp the small a*muse oval stamp to ground him (**see my note at the bottom of this post**). I used markers to color the balloons before stamping them and then cut out around the tops of them when I cropped the image.

The beaver was colored in w/ Prismacolors and Gamsol and then I doodled a little frame on the Whisper White before matting it and then faux stitching the Cool Caribbean mat.

To do the "patterned" piece I stamped some of the images from the Hip Hip Hooray set in the 3 different colors (plus Black) then sponged the edges and lightly sponged the rest of it so it wasn't so starkly white.

I stamped the card base w/ the dotted BG (only the top 2/3's) and the More Mustard strip w/ the confetti stamp in the set (and sponged all the edges) then assembled the card.

I added the ribbon and adhered the main image w/ dimensionals (and put a tiny one under the balloon that sticks out).

**So about the a*muse stamp - I ordered the small and large oval along w/ a couple of other ones (which I haven't had the chance to ink up yet) a few weeks ago and I LOVE the ovals - I don't know how I lived w/out them LOL!! Sadly tho the shipping was WAY more than I thought it would be ($10 US - the order was about $40 when I called it in and she said it would be no more than $6) but I'm still glad I got them!**

Flower Bling

I gotta admit I'm not all that happy w/ this card. I was trying out this week's SCS Color Challenge and the colors just weren't workin for me this time around!!

I pulled out my brand spanking new Bodacious Bouquet set w/ matching Classy Brass template and went to work (had to use the template for this week's Ways To Use It Challenge) - this set has been sitting here for a few *weeks* now just begging to be inked up!

The flower I stamped using markers and a blender pen for the Vintage Violet. Once it was stamped I covered it w/ VersaMark and embossed it w/ Iridescent Ice EP and cut it out.

I stamped the center flower w/ Sahara Sand and did the same thing then connected them w/ a black brad.

The circles were made w/ my Coluzzle and I adhered the flower to them w/ a dimensional.

I then stamped the flourish on the card base and used the Classy Brass Template to pierce holes around each one.

Once I got the strips of CS and ribbon on the card I inked up just the 'Friendship' part of the stamp (from SU's Take Three set) and stamped it directly under the strips of CS - I totally eyeballed it and AM proud to say I got it straight the first time LOL! (a good thing b/c I wasn't about to re-do the whole card base a second time!!).

Prima and Chatterbox

Just 2 of my very favoritest things when it comes to paper crafting. I LOVE Chatterbox paper - and if it came in wallpaper I would cover EVERY room!! LOL I also love Primas and can never have enough.

I did this card up quick (like less than 15 minutes) for this week's SCS Sketch Challenge and so I'd having something to post for y'all!!

This Prima is from one of the new Crown Jewels Collection. You can get them from StarLitStudio. They come in a GORGEOUS tin and make such a wonderful gift!!

I got a tin of them just for me and this is the first I've used it. I pulled out all the flowers when I first got it and played w/ them then put them all back and set the tin up on a shelf so I can see it all the time! ROFL!!!

As for the Chatterbox - I picked this sheet up at my LSS not too long ago - it's from the new Villa collection.

I kept the card really simple and quick. I cut the patterned paper 1/8" smaller than the card front and folded down the corner (for the sketch) and added a strip of Whisper White CS under the fold that I cut w/ Fiskars Scallop Scissors (I LOVE scallops but I really don't like these scissors - it's hit and miss w/ them. Sometimes they cut great and other times they just butcher the paper - not good.)

I only used the one stamp (from Tags So Much - the Level 1 hostess set) on this card. I colored it w/ Markers, stamped it onto Whisper White CS and punched it out w/ my square punch.

I sponged around the edges of the card itself and the square of pink CS and that was it!! I think keeping it simple helps as the Prima flower says it all!! (and FYI these one's aren't paper but are a really soft fabric - SOOOOO nice).

Simple and Seasonal

OK I did this in about 20 minutes while Josie was napping and my desk is a DISASTER right now but I wanted to quickly make something for this week's Color Challenge.

I kept it fairly simple - the images were stamped using Basic Black ink onto Whisper White CS then colored in w/ markers. I sponged the edges of the CS w/ a sponge dauber and Cool Caribbean ink.

The dog is stamped on the card base and colored in w/ markers. All the white "fur" is lightly edged w/ Cool Caribbean (using a blender pen) to make it look more white. I then added dabs of glue to the fur and the star and tree and poured DD Glitter over it all for some bling.

I used SU's oval punches and the new Perfect Ending set from the Holiday Mini for the sentiment. After I glued them together I added glue around the small oval and poured on more DD Glitter.

I like this color combo for Christmas cards - it's very fresh and funky!! :o)

Roses Are Red

This weeks Color Challenge was to use Certainly Celery, Real Red and Old Olive. These colors go great together for x-mas cards, but I wanted to do something different. I *need* to get a bunch of thank you cards made up so I decided to do a floral card for this challenge.

The main panel was stamped then I used the color spritzer and markers to fill in all the blank areas. I then matted it on Basic Black CS and distressed the black CS edges w/ the edge distressing tool in my SU cutter kit. I adhered it to the card w/ SU dimensionals.

I don't know if you can tell in this pic but the Real Red CS was stamped w/ Paisley and sponged. The Old Olive CS was stamped w/ Fine Lace and the card base was stamped w/ Cheesecloth.

I then added a couple pieces of Pewter Hodgepodge Hardware and some Red Grosgrain and that was it!

Black and White

Todays Limited Supplies Challenge was to make a card using *only* black and white. I had some cool patterned paper that had black and white designs in it that I picked up at Costco (a ginormous slab for $14.99 Canadian - I used to shy away from stuff like that b/c the majority of the patterns and colors were so ugly - but this newest one is pretty nice. I'm also trying to make different pattern papers actually *fit* into a card design instead of just slapping them on! LOL).  Anywho this is what I made today:

I pulled out my loved (and sadly retired - I so wish SU could bring this set back!) Wonderful Wings set and stamped the butterfly w/ Basic Black Craft ink on SU's vellum paper. I then embossed it w/ (you guessed it) Iridescent Ice EP.

FYI I keep my embossing powders in one of those plastic 3 drawer containers right in front of me on my desk and I rarely bother putting the II EP away b/c I use it ALL the time. It's just so pretty and gives a nice touch of sparkle to my projects.

Once I finished embossing it (being careful not to overheat the vellum as it is VERY thin) I flipped it over and colored on the backside w/ my Whisper White and Basic Black Watercolor Crayons. I then cut it out (would have been smarter to color on it *after* I cut it out as I got crayon all over my hands but I wasn't thinking! You've been warned lol) using my paper snips.

You can't tell at all in this pic but I stamped the Print Pattern BG on the Whisper White CS using Brilliance Moonlight White Ink - IRL it's very subtle and shimmery - I love it. I used my Fiskars scalloped scissors to cut the black CS and mounted the WW to that. The butterfly was glued on to the white and I only applied glue to the body so the wings are free to "flutter".

The white ribbon is cindyribbon (aka May Arts ribbon) from StarLitStudio. The black I got at Michael's but once I run out I'm getting it from Cindy - when you compare them side by side you can tell which one is the higher quality May Arts ribbon - it has a really pretty shimmer to it and the dots are actually raised up (FYI you can now get entire 50 yard rolls of this stuff from her for CHEAP compared to what you pay at a LSS. I so want one of every color!! You can still buy all her ribbon in like 2 yard increments (they vary I think) to get a nice variety).

Snowflakes in Brown

Sounds pretty icky doesn't it?? I mean who'd want a card w/ *brown* snowflakes??? Well I for one wouldn't mind one! I never would have at first but after seeing some GORGEOUS samples on SCS and coming across this week's Limited Supplies Challenge I thought "Eh, why not??"

Don't get me wrong - I've used brown for a snowflake before (on this card) but I used Whisper White and Bashful Blue too so the brown was a small accent. To use only shades of brown for a snowflake card tho? I wasn't sure if I could pull it off. But I did - and here's the end result:

I used my large Monogram S stamp and the Kissing Technique (scroll down to the Kissing w/ Small Stamps - that's what I did) using Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa and Chocolate Chip w/ the Snowflakes set. After stamping it on Whisper White I cut it out and mounted it on Choc Chip CS and then cut it out again. I mounted it to the card using dimensionals.

I used the same inks and the snowflakes on the rectangle of Whisper White CS - sometimes double and triple stamping w/out re-inking. I sponged the edges w/ Creamy Caramel.

I used the Rough Texture Jumbo Wheel on the Close to Cocoa CS and the Rough Around the Edges Jumbo Wheel on the Creamy Caramel (I love the look of these - I need to pull them out and use them more often - I always forget that I have them!).

The little tag I created w/ my Word Window Punch (punched it out of Whisper White then punched it again to make it smaller) and I hand wrote the "Snow". I sponged it w/ Creamy Caramel and tied it to the S w/ Linen Thread.

I added a few stitches to the 2 corners and a couple of buttons then mounted it all on a piece of Choc Chip and then onto a Whisper White (sponged w/ Creamy Caramel) card base.

I made this for someone whose kindness completely blew me away - I hope she likes it!!

Honestly I haven't stamped for like a week and didn't know where to begin!! So I checked out some of this week's SCS challenges and ended up using 3 of them LOL! I used the Color Challenge, Sketch Challenge, and Ways To Use It Challenge (use Stazon).

I really love these colors together - they are so elegant!! I stamped the flower from Sassy Stems w/ Black Stazon on watercolor paper and watercolored it w/ re-inkers and an AquaPainter. Then I pulled out my trusty Color Spritzer and added a spritz of Bravo Burgundy here and there.

I stamped the Moss CS w/ Fine Lace and the Saffron w/ Weathered. The card base was stamped w/ Paisley (this is definitely my #1 favorite BG stamp - I just LOVE the look of it!). All of those I also sponged the edges w/ a sponge dauber. I stamped the sentiment on the Moss using Black Stazon.

The main image was notched w/ the Ticket Corner Punch (love that thing!!) and mounted on Basic Black and Bravo Burgundy then mounted to the card w/ dimensionals. I added a bit of Black Narrow Organdy ribbon and some black brads to complete the look (I LOVE black brads - I'm starting to run low on them!!).
