Making a Card #26 Video

Well I hope the rest of you guys are staying warm - we're dealing with frigid temps right now (we're sitting at about -41C at the moment and it's supposed to get a lot colder overnight - blech) and I've been cooped up in the house all week as usual!

Anywho this video *finally* uploaded after a few hiccups. I had a completely different card planned out in my head and ended up with this:

I am really liking how this turned out with the patterned paper clouds! And I can't believe I haven't used my Basic Grey Persimmon 6x6 pack 'till now.

I'm going to go curl up on the couch now and watch a movie with the family - and keep an eye on the furnace too as the windchill forcast for tonight/tomorrow is saying anywhere from -50 to -64C! Again blech :P

Life Update Video February 2014

I never did a January one - like I say in the video both me and Katelyn were sick with that awful cold and after that finally went away we were into February and just too busy to get to it (and yes my OCD is irked I didn't get one done but my then OCD was irked at the thought of doing one in the middle of the month too LOL - so I waited 'till now).

No Time To Relax

Hey everyone. Even though I've already posted a couple cards and a couple of videos this week I actually made and filmed them a while ago - which was good b/c I've had a lot on my plate and haven't actually stamped anything in almost a week now.

It's been a hectic several days, and it hasn't helped that we're sitting in the -40s (C) temps for this entire week too - I can usually deal with winter and all that goes with it here but this year I'm am definitely sick of it and can't wait for spring!

Anywho - I wanted to play along with this week's Bellarific Friday challenge which was this sketch:

I was flipping through all my Uptown Girls stamps that I have and when I saw my REILLY loves to RELAX image and the sentiment I had to use it. So here's what I made:

I used my new Carta Bella Wildflower patterned paper as the inspiration for the colors. I stamped the image onto one of the aqua patterned papers and paper-pieced the chair (just the main part I didn't bother cutting out the frilly part) and colored in the pattern with Copics - totally busy and crazy but that's what I'm feeling at the moment *wink*.

I masked off the entire image and airbrushed the background in using the pink copics and the lighter purple too. Then after I was done all the coloring and adhered the paper-pieced chair into place I used my Dark Pink Wink of Stella to add some shimmer and my white POSCA paint pen to add some highlights here and there.

On the inside of the card I stamped the Uptown Girl stamp again this time with MFT Sno Cone ink, then added the sentiment that comes with the stamp and done!

MFT February Creative Challenge + Making a Card #25 Video

Hello hello everyone!

I'm really excited about this month's challenge for the MFT Design Team. The challenge was to use MFT's Stencils - in whatever way we felt inspired to. 

Make sure you check out the MFT blog post HERE for links to all the other designer's blogs. If all these posts don't inspire you to pull out your stencils (or to get some if you don't own any yet) I don't know what will!

I had a hard time only making 2 cards - I could have made more and more and don't all sorts of things with the (few) stencils I have - but I limited myself to 2 for today's post. Y'all will see me using stencils more and more in the future though - there's just so much you can do with them!

For my first card I used the Waves stencil and my Inktense Pencils to create a watercolored effect.

I of course had to use the Go Overboard stamp set and Let's Get Nautical Die-namics as well - all these products go together perfectly of course.

I kept the inside of the card simple with just a row of anchors stamped with the gold ink.

Now for card #2:

Totally different technique and look on this one! And sorry there's no video for this card - I literally did it between dealing with a fussy baby, feeding my kids supper, phone calls etc etc etc one night on top of a VERY messy desk. It was one of those things where the creativity was sparking and NOTHING else was working in my favour :P.

I used the Wildcat stencil and airbrushed several Copics over it right on to my card base. I purposely kept the concentration of the colors to the lower left of the card and let it lighten up near the edges just to give it some visual interest.

I had to pull out the PI Sassitude set to go with it - I kept the coloring really simple and used the same colors as I used for the stencil with a few more thrown in for her skin and whatnot:

I fussy cut out the image and popped her on to my card with dimensionals. Then I took my Wink of Stella gold brush and added some shimmer to her skirt/boots/bow (side note - LOVE the gold! It really shows up well!).

I airbrushed over the Wildcat stencil again on the inside - this time leaving more white space and lighter parts so there's space to write something. I finished it off with stamping miss Sassitude and the sentiment with Chocolate Brown ink and that was it!

Heat Embossing 101 Video

Hey everyone! Thank you to all that provided feedback on my Sunday Recap post. Almost all of you seem to like it so the plan is to keep doing it each week.

For today's post I *finally* got around to filming a video on what you need to get started with heat embossing/how to heat emboss/what I use etc etc. I've had a lot of people ask for it and it's been on my to-do list for quite some time so here it is!

I've added a bunch of links at the end of the post that have heat tools, inks I'd recommend that work well with heat embossing (you don't need all of them but I included a few options), other tools/items that help and of course a bunch of embossing powders.

Simply put here's a list of what (in my opinion) you NEED to get started:

Heartfelt Greetings - MFT Lovefest Challenge on SCS

Happy Friday everyone!

"Lovefest" is going on at Splitcoast right now, and today's challenge is being hosted by MFT. Anyone can participate - if you're interested you can check out all the details HERE <----click!

I decided to pull out a sentiment set and some of my Die-namics to create a HEARTfelt card for a friend:

I used MFT's Clearly Sentimental About Friendship stamp set as the focus of my card, and for the heart element I used the Heart Doily Die-namics that I cut from patterned paper.

I die cut the flowers with MFT's Pretty Posies Die-namics, sprayed them with a light mist of water and used a large embossing stylus to curl them up a bit. I then used my Delicata ink pad to add some gold shimmer (LOVE!) to the edges.

I finished off the inside of the card with more patterned paper, die cut another Heart Doily and tucked that behind a piece of Insulation Pink card stock that I cut to have a place to write and that was it!

Making a Card #24 Video

Hello everyone :). If you're not subscribed via e-mail and are just checking in I've been posting a LOT lately - this is my 5th post and 4th video this week! So be sure to scroll below this post to check them all out.

Today's card is somewhat of a "bonus" LOL! I made this card *months* ago and had filmed the video and then it's sat in a drawer even since. I didn't completely forget about it - but when I would remember it was always when I had a million other things on my plate and would just put it off.

I finally had some time though and got the video edited and uploaded for this card:

 

This makes for a good "guy" card - and even better as a good "teenage guy" card! I think this Paper Smooches Think Fast stamp set is adorable LOL!

Like I say in the video this was actually the card that got me going on that whole coloring on kraft card stock kick LOL! I started with this and then started using Copics and watercoloring and just anything with kraft - I still love it.

Rain or Shine

Hello everyone! I posted a card and video (late) last night - you can check it out by scrolling down or slicking HERE.

While I was waiting for the video to load (for the millionth time yesterday), I decided to put my time to good use and make a card. I didn't film this one - I was rather PO'd at the whole video/time/uploading/internet and just needed to sit and craft LOL!

And then of course once the card was done I wished I'd filmed it:

I used the new Roberto's Rascals Splish Splash image and paired it with the new CCD Cloudy Skies stamp and my Rainy Day Sentiments.

I pulled out my MFT Pierced Rectangle STAX Die-namics for the main images and used the Sunshine Die-namics to back the sentiment (that I punched out from card stock using a 1 1/8" circle punch).

The ribbon is old SU Baja Breeze ribbon I've had in my stash for years - it was the closest blue I had to go with the lighter blue in the patterned paper. I sealed off the edges of the ribbon with a lighter (see the end of this post for the quick tip video I did ages ago showing how to do that).

I used Copics to color in the images, and then went over the water/rain/clouds and the card stock the sentiment was stamped on with my Wink of Stella Clear. After that I went over the rain and the puddle with my Glossy Accents to make it glossy - fun!

I lined the inside of the card with more patterned paper and stamped the Splish Splash image again (this time with MFT Sno Cone ink - another "go-to" favorite of mine) onto white card stock that was die cut the same as the front.

I stamped another sentiment from the Rainy Day Sentiments set onto the yellow card stock and punched it out and backed it with the Sunshine Die-namics.

I don't know why but I LOVE making rainy day/umbrella/sunshiney/cheer up cards - ESPECIALLY when at the moment we're getting hit with a ton of SNOW!

Making a Card #23 Video

Well I FINALLY got this video uploaded, and I've got a service person coming out tomorrow morning to (hopefully!) find out why my internet has been such a PITA the past couple of weeks! Today was the worst and it's taken about half a dozen attempts to get this video loaded on to YouTube - but I did it!

Anywho - I decided to play along with another Stamping Bella Bellarific Friday challenge - this one was to use ribbon on a card - a pretty simple challenge (for me anyway *wink*). I haven't been using ribbon as much as I used to - it just depends on my mood. But this little push got me thinking about it again so here's what I created:

I pulled out my Uptown Girl LOLLY and her BROLLY stamp for this card. So far so good with my resolution to start USING my Uptown Girls stamps! This is my third card this year (you can see the other two here and here), and I've got plenty more stamps sitting here that I I'm planning on using so stay tuned!

The ribbon is my go-to favorite May Arts Textures - it's normally not curly but I have them wound on round wooden doll pins and the closer I get to the end of my stash the tighter they're wound and it creates this perfect twist on the ribbon that I just love.

I watercolored the image with my Inktense Pencils - more on that in the video.

Organization - Stamp-n-Storage Die Tote

So I am super-excited to share this post and video with y'all! I have been searching for so long now to find the best way to store my (already large) collection of MFT Die-namics dies, and being on their Design Team my collection grows every month! So since I'm using them all the time I was struggling not only with storage but something that would be functional and make it easier for me to find what I'm looking for.

After doing a LOT of searching of the internetz and looking at options in home improvement stores, eyeing up every container I came across (I think my hubby thought I was going batty - not unusual...), I started looking into the Die Storage Totes from Stamp-n-Storage. And I ended up getting the largest one with the 80 magnet sheets.

I gush about the Die Tote a LOT in the video - I can't help it LOL! I really do love it. And now that I've got it all organized and full I honestly don't know what I could have used for a container (that could handle the weight - I wasn't kidding when I said it weighs well over 20lbs), and I have yet to find magnet sheets as sturdy as these.

Needless to say I'm 100% satisfied with my Die Tote and I will be getting a second one! I'm going to keep my couple of binder boxes for my smaller die collections (mainly CC Cutters and Paper Smooches Wise Dies with a couple other random ones I own) as they're all contained nicely.

Making a Card #22 Video

Well I did get a chance to make a card using my new Rainy Day Sentiments stamp set!

And then it took FOREVER for my video to upload to YouTube (my internet has been wonky again lately and it's driving me batty) - so here it is with video!

I used the new Roberto's Rascals Henry's Rainy Day image and colored it in with my Copics:

I mention in the video that MFT has a card stock that is very similar to SU's More Mustard (that I always rave about in the fall b/c it's such a perfect fall color and I can't believe they discontinued it) - yeah the Safety Orange card stock is what I was referring to. It's slightly darker and deeper than MM but a perfect substitute - so I won't feel bad about using up my supply of MM now!

And the inside of the card - I LOVE MFT Sno Cone ink for stamping line images on the inside of the card. You can see it but it's light enough to write over with a regular pen - LOVE!

NEW AmyR February '14 Stamps

Hello everyone, I hope y'all had a great Valentine's/Galintines/Single Awareness Day LOL! Ours was just like any other day, except hubby took the day off work and cleaned the house. That meant more to me than any flowers or chocolates he could have given me *grin*. And he dealt with the kids and let me sleep in this morning which I REALLY appreciated - in the past couple of weeks munchkin's sleeping through the night has completely stopped and I'm up a lot with her. And I still havent' adjusted to that so I'm just tired all the time and value *any* sleep I can get!

I LOVE sentiments like this, and I love cards with raindrops and umbrellas and rainbows too. They just cheer me up when I'm making them!

Valentine Video #13

Nothing like coming in *right* under the wire eh? LOL I HAD to get at least one more video made for my Valentine series (really if I could have done 2 more to make it 14 my OCD would have been appeased - but I can only accomplish so much...:P) - this idea popped in my head the other day so I thought I'd go for it.

I made a card using *just* sentiment stamps - and the beauty of it is you can make it for *any* occasion - not just Valentine's Day - and yet I used Valentine paper for the "non-Valentine" card.

MFT February Release Rewind

Hey everyone! Well this release just flew by - I thought I was doing pretty good keeping up with it all and then realized my Release Rewind post had to go live TONIGHT and not tomorrow night. Good thing I double-checked - I've got my days of the week messed up - which tends to happen when I don't get out of the house very much lately with the weather we've been having! Speaking of which we're getting a ton of snow right now (oh joy... *sarcasm*) so it looks like I'll be home-bound for a while again....

Anywho I've got a couple more cards to share with you guys using more of the new February products from MFT. And make sure you head on over to the MFT blog post here for the links to the other DT members to see their RR posts as well!

Here's the first card I made:

When I started this card I wasn't planning on making it into a birthday card, but as I got going I thought it was looking pretty cool and that it would work perfect for my oldest daughter's birthday which is coming up soon.

I used the new Zipper Die-namics (which I think have already sold out on the MFT site! But you can click to have it notify you when it's back in stock) and the new Cheetah Background stamp to create this funky card.

I used the new Little Lowercase Letters Die-namics to spell out her name, and the Little Letters for the capital V. I LOVE these alphabet sets - they're the perfect size for cards.

The lip charm was cut with the Zipper Die-namics and then coated with a layer of Clear Wink of Stella then I added a thick coat of Glossy Accents and left to dry before tying it to the zipper pull with some white hemp cord.

The hb2u was done with more Little Lowercase Letters and the Little Numbers Die-namics sets. Those and the white letters were also coated with some Clear Wink of Stella for some shimmer!

Then to finish off the inside of the card I used half of the Zipper Die-namics, leaving the rest of the inside plain so that we've got room to write something. I added another Razzle Berry "flag" (I used the flag die from the Blueprints 12 set) with the number 11 in white. I can not believe she's going to be 11! ACK!

Anywho on to card #2:

Suzy's released another Sunny Day Doodles set - Borders & Accents with - you guessed it - fun little borders and hand drawn accents done in her signature hand drawn style.

I stamped a sentiment from her Be Your Best Self set onto Kraft card stock with Versafine Onyx Black ink and used my Inktense pencils to color it in. I then went over that with my waterbrush (lightly as it's not watercolor paper and it can warp *really* easily).

I used 3 stamps from the Borders & Accents to "frame" the sentiment - and of course it all looks like it was made that way.

I used one of the scalloped stamps on the Sour Apple card stock with Sour Apple ink to create the "patterned paper", then used the dot line stamp again to stamp all around the card base and colored those in with the Inktense pencils and my waterbrush.

I even went so far to add my own little "doodles" with my POSCA white paint pen around 2 of the corners on the Sour Apple card stock, then added in some highlights and whatnot on the main image b/c I always love how it just *pops* on the Kraft.

Finally on the inside of the card I stamped another sentiment from the Be Your Best Self stamp set in black and then stamped the same scalloped border stamp I used on the front of the card in the Sour Apple ink and that was it!
