I haven't been up to posting anything on here for the past week or so. My intentions were to stamp all weekend and then have plenty of things to post - aaaannndd that didn't happen!
Tim and his dad had a day off last week so they decided that was the time to start the reno's on the big spare room in our house.
Now I should have taken BEFORE-before pics b/c we were just using this room for storage as there was no floor - not even a sub-floor. It was just cement as this room used to be a carport then at one time the owners decided to enclose it and from what I've heard it used to be a mother-in-law suite. But the people who owned the house before us gutted it completely then did their own "renos" which we now have to UNdo as it's just a mess!
ANYWHO - so yeah we've been using the room for storage b/c there are a lot of "issues" that had/have to be overcome until the room is finished - the first being the floor:
There is a cement ledge all around the room (which was poured for the foundation of the walls? I don't know) which Tim and his dad had to drill through to anchor in the supports for the sub floor. I didn't envy them that job all all!
Since we all work full time they've been working at it for the past few days. And since the room was all full of junk it all had to be moved into other parts of the house (or thrown outside if it was garbage!).
So my house is literally a disaster right now. And that definitely puts a damper on my creativity or any desire to post LOL!
So why am I posting this mess? Well once we get the floor in, figure out how we'll heat the room (as it wasn't set up to be heated originally), and re-do goodness knows what all needs to be done - PART of this space will be my new studio!
I'm not taking the whole room for myself - it's hard to tell from the pics but it's over 200 square feet and while I would LOVE to have that much space just for me - I don't need it!
I'm going to have half the space for my studio and the other half will be Tim's space (which will turn into a man-cave of sorts I'm assuming - TV, PS3, futon and I'm sure at some point a mini-fridge LOL). So it will be OUR "kid-free" zone *grin*.
So of course that will present it's own set of challenges when it comes to picking paint colors and whatnot - but I'll deal with that later.
I'm excited for this change. I don't know when we'll be moving stuff into the room - there's a good chance we'll be using it before it's fully "finished" b/c I just CAN'T stand to have all this stuff all over the house!! I'd rather craft in an unfinished plywood-floored room with crappy paint colors than have a cluttered and filthy house that saps my mojo LOL!
PLUS - I'm taking the far end of the room where the windows are - so I'll have a TON of natural light and a great view of the backyard:
which right now is nothing special as there's a pile of junk that was tossed there that no one has had the time to haul to the dump. And it's snowed and as of right now is STILL snowing so the view is of a snow-covered pile of junk.
Nice (note the sarcasm).
I'm still excited tho. Even though I designed my other little studio and love it it doesn't bother me that I have to take it apart and completely re-do everything. Those that know me know I get a kick out of moving things around and re-organizing :o)
Plus my old studio will be converted back into a bedroom and my girls will FINALLY get their own rooms. We've had this planned for MONTHS (and I actually bought bedding and decor at Target when we were in the States in May for Veronica's room b/c it was so cute and couldn't pass it up! It's been stored away ever since) and the girls are pretty excited about this change.
It's a good thing - just a ton of work and mess. And with all of us working full time and busy schedules it's all we can do to make sure everyone is fed and has clean clothes and gets to bed/work/school on time.
Of course the cat has been enjoying the chaos - it gives her more crap to get into (she's been driving me CRAZY). Lately she's taken possession of the old office chair (that should be thrown out b/c it's broken but for some reason has been left in our entryway):
The register vent is right there so it's warm and she's right near the door so she can keep an eye on the comings and goings.
Regardless of that she still drives me nuts but the girls love her and she puts up with all their abuse (I've lost track of the times I've had to untangle her from the "outfits" they put on her or the blankets they wrap her in when she's the "baby" for their pretend play) and she really does adore them. It's funny to see how she acts when they're not here. It's like she doesn't know what to do with herself.
Sorry for the long rambling post! Not posting on here regularily makes me even more chatty than usual *wink*
