Hello all!! As usual it's been quiet around here lately!! I actually have a LOT to share over the next little while - I filmed 4 new videos - one of which I'm posting today - and made a card so woohoo!!
I just need to find the time to edit said videos and get them uploaded and whatnot! But getting them done feels good! I like knowing that some of the work is already done (filming then uploading to my computer) so that I'm not totally starting from scratch!
Anywho - on to THIS post.
After posting my haul video recently I did get some requests to compare the Scor-Pal to the Martha Stewart Scoring Board - so I did!
I made the video and uploaded it to YouTube so you can check it out here:
You can also watch it on YouTube HERE <-----click!
And here are all the pics I took:
So this one just shows the 2 boards together - and the Scor-Mat as well.
And this one is a close up of how the scoring tools are stored with each board.
This one shows the two scoring tools side by side so y'all can see the size difference.
And then close ups of the score lines on each board.
Another close up showing the envelope tool storage on the back of the MS board.
And then showing the envelope tool on the MS board.
And last but not least here's a Pro's and Con's list for both boards! And I'm not surprised if I forget anything - if I do or if you have any other thoughts to offer feel free to let me know in the comment section!!
Martha Stewart Scoring Board:
Pro's:
-price (29.99 in Canada, 19.99 in the US - cheaper if you use a coupon!)
-score lines every 1/8 inches - virtually eliminating the need to move the paper for any scored line
-the envelope tool - a very cool bonus! - that and the storage on the back of the board for it make it a perfect thing to have (and not lose!)
-really crisp score lines
-includes measurements of common card sizes and boxes
-very lightweight and easy to use
-detailed measurements every 1/8" and clearly marked to each line
Con's:
-flimsy scoring tool (however it's thinness makes for crisper scoring lines - but the tool itself is flimsy!)
-the tray to hold the tool is annoying - and the measurements on the inside of the tray lid are hard to see - you have to get down to the boards level to read them
-you need to be more careful scoring since the lines ARE so close together - it's easy to jump the track and score where you don't want to
-if you don't have a Michaels in your area it may be very difficult to get your hands on this - some online stores may carry it (but might charge extra shipping because of it's size) but then you can't use the usual 40% off Michaels coupon
Scor-Pal:
Pro's:
-Scoring tool snaps into place at the top of the board - easy to put away and easy to snap out!
- more comfortable to use (for me anyway!) scoring tool
-replacement scoring tools can be purchased for a minimal cost (usually $4 US or so)
-can purchase the Scor-Mat to fit inside the Scor-Pal - enabling one to leave it on your desk and use as a crafting surface
-wide variety of resources/projects and tutorials on the Scor-Pal website - giving many options of use for the Scor-Pal
Con's:
-price (usually 39.99 plus shipping from the Scor-Pal website - other online retailers may offer free shipping etc)
-can only be found online (could be a Pro if you're like me and get nearly all your crafting supplies online!) - or I think through a TAC consultant (I seem to remember TAC started carrying the Scor-Pal some time ago? I am not sure on that though!)
-score lines are only every 1/2 inch and then some extras - so depending on your project you may have to move the cardstock around to get the scored lines where you want them
............................................................................................................................................................
I got my Martha Stewart Scoring Board at Michaels in Canada. All That Scraps is now carrying it HERE as well. Plus I'm sure a lot of other online retailers are carrying it.
The Scor-Pal I had bought from the Scor-Pal website (I can't remember what I paid in shipping but I think it was $10 - I wanted it so badly though b/c I had used a friends and LOVED it so I just sucked it up and paid the shipping for the one item!) - however other websites now carry the Scor-Pal and the Scor-Mat - AllThatScraps is one of them.
I think that's it folks!! If I remember anything that I want to add I'll just edit this post and add onto it (and I'll edit it if any of you have other interesting points that I might have forgotten to add!).
