Friday Sketch! #53 - and BLOG CANDY!!

Since I totally spaced last week and forgot to plan for blog candy in celebration of one year of sketches - I got somethin' good this week! Wanna know what it is??

I will be choosing one random winner from all the participants of this week's sketch to receive a $20 gift certificate for Stamping Bella!! I thought it was only fitting as I started these sketches using Bella stamps and this week's sample (to be posted a little later) features a bella stamp.

It's an oldie - more specifically the first "official" Friday Sketch!

I re-did the original (you can see it here) as my first sketches were pretty sad - I was using Microsoft Paint to create them and barely knew what I was doing.

I get asked this a lot - I now use both Paint and Photoshop to create my sketches. It just involves a lot of fiddling on my part to get it the way I want it.

Roundup - Friday Sketch! #52 Submissions

OK I am definitely loving the Mr Linky feature for y'all to add your submissions to my sketches. And I just figured out how to close them so that's a bonus. I love that the rest of you can easily see them and click through to check them out - ahhhh life is good!

STAMP STUDIO VIDEO TOUR!

OK I FINALLY can show y'all my stamp studio. I had to re-take the video's I don't know how many times - I kept getting interrupted by the girls, or it was way too shaky (I just use my digi camera to take videos - and it's hard to keep it still and walk and talk at the same time LOL!), or my camera batteries would die in the middle......

Anywho tho I got them done and got all three (yes THREE) videos uploaded and ready to go so here they are:

OK I took some pictures this morning and thought I'd add them here as well - the studio is still all nice and clean. I had to clean it for the videaos - but most of the time it's just a mess LOL - although now that I'm in a smaller room it's been much easier to clean up and keep on top of things. The other room I had all my stamp stuff in when we moved here was pretty much a mess 24/7!

ALSO - I did a little draft of how the room is set up - just playing around with Photoshop:

 

(sorry this one isn't very clear - I've been having issues lately with uploading my better pics and have to keep switching them all to JPEG format which is driving me nuts!)

And lastly I just wanted to mention that the only NEW things I bought for this space when I re-did it was the roman blind for the window, those two wire picture thingies and the white wall rack for the ribbon. I made do with what I already had or what we had in the garage (which was a lot. I've been stamping for several years now and I know my collection is huge! Y'all should see the boxes of stuff that I'm selling at the garage sale this summer).

I'm a sucker for storage stuff (my bff has said she could just get me cheapo plastic baskets for me as gifts and I'd be happy - and it's TRUE - especially if they're pink!) - so when I find things on sale or find something cool I get it. When I no longer have a use for it or we move things around I rarely get rid of anything that can be used for storage. I'll store it away in the garage or elsewhere and 9 times out of 10 I end up needing it later on (like the EXPEDIT bookcase and the iris carts!!).

Here's the second card I made with SU!'s Thoughts & Prayers set along with my Love Sentiments set:

 

This time I used the tree image and inked it up with SU's Mellow Moss and stamped it onto ivory cardstock. I cut out and embossed it with an oval nesties die and matted it with a scalloped oval cut from Basic Grey (SU!) cardstock.

I stamped the Happy Anniversary sentiment from myLove Sentiments setonto the patterned paper then cut it out with one of the label dies before adhering it to the card with dimensionals.

All the patterned paper is from the Cosmo Cricket EverAfter collection - such GORGEOUS papers! I love the orange that was added to them - for this card I chose not to use the orange but one of these days I will - it's so cool!

The ribbon is SU!'s So Saffron grosgrain that you get in the ribbon sale-a-bration pack (of course I chose the ribbon as my freebie!! I just wish they had MORE ribbon selections....), and the buttons are actual Basic Grey Wassail buttons.

 On the inside of the card I just lined it with more patterned papers and added the strip of grey cardstock that I punched with the Martha Stewart Scalloped Lace punch.

Look Ma - No Copics!!

My mother-in-law ordered the new Stampin' Up! Thoughts & Prayers set last month and it finally arrived after being on backorder for forever (seems it's a super-popular set!!). After seeing it in real life I REALLY like this set too - I can see why it's so popular!

I couldn't resist putting it together for her and inking it up to make a couple of cards - hope she doesn't mind!! :o)

Here's one of the cards I made:

 

I inked up the vine image with SU markers - Barely Banana, Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose and Garden Green then stamped it onto white cardstock.

I added Fruit Punch Stickles to the blossoms for a little sparkle - so pretty in real life!

The sentiment is from my Love Sentiments set - this one is 2 separate stamps - so I stamped the first part onto some So Saffron (SU!) cardstock then cut it out with one of my ribbon tag dies.

The main image was cut out with a rectangle nestability die, then matted with a scalloped rectangle.

All the patterned paper is from the new Basic Grey Porcelain collection - the mini brads are also BG Porcelain.

For the inside of the card I lined it with white cardstock - then re-stamped the vine image.

I didn't re-ink it or anything - just huffed (as in re-moistened the ink on the stamp by breathing on it) on it and stamped it onto the cardstock.

I stamped the second part of the sentiment from theLove Sentiments set onto some pink cardstock and cut this one out with a label die then adhered it in place.

The patterned strip was punched out with SU!'s eyelet border punch (have I already mentioned that I really like this punch? Prolly but it bears repeating - I really like this punch LOL!).

Butterfly Canvases

I made these for a friend's birthday a couple of weeks ago and wanted to wait until I had given it to her before posting it on here. canvases

I was inspired bythe Martha Stewart Weddings cover that I posted here and made that butterfly card with:

 

These are 16x20" (I think that was the size - I forgot to measure them!) canvases that I got at Michaels. I mixed up some white and very light blue acrylic paint and painted both of the canvases.

The butterflies are stamps - I have a set by Martha Stewart that I got several months ago at Michaels, as well as the Wonderful Wings set by Stampin' Up! that was retired a few years ago (that I LOVE and will never get rid of!).

I stamped all the butterflies from each set onto cardstock (all SU!) with VersaMark and embossed them all with black embossing powder.

Then each butterfly was cut out (this part took a long time - I did it in spurts over a week. Repetitive cutting like this is really painful for me b/c I have carpal tunnel - so I did a bit at a time - it's a good way to keep my hands busy while watching a movie and keeps me from snacking LOL!) and set aside.

In total I stamped, embossed and cut out 54 butterflies. And FYI I had a full container of embossing powder when I started - and when I was done I still have a good 3/4 left - it just lasts forever!

I arranged them in a rainbow spectrum on the canvases then glued each one in place with Ranger Glossy Accents (this stuff holds like crazy!).

You can't see it in the pictures but I also dusted each butterfly withPebbles Pearlescent chalk so that they're all shimmery.

I wasn't able to stage the canvases properly for the pictures (I was in a hurry when I took them!) but the right one is meant to hang several inches higher than the left one so that the "flight path" is more aligned.

I plan to make another set for myself but it will be slightly different. Tim seems to think I have more canvases in the garage but so far I've had no luck in finding them - if I can't I'll buy another set when I'm in the city.

I want to finish my own set like this to hang in my stamp studio (I've heard all your requests!! I went to take a video of it the other day and my camera battery was dead. By the time I found the charger and got the battery fully charged I made a mess crafting stuff and don't want to show the studio to y'all when it's such a disaster ;o)).

So now on to a card. Sorry for the lack of posts the last couple of days. I worked Friday longer than I planned and was beat when I got home. And Saturday my creative mojo just wasn't working for me. I tried (several times) to make a couple of cards and nothing was working for me so I took a break!

I have a quick and simple one to share tho that I made this morning:

 

I used my Friday Sketch! #52 along withKim Hughes Baby Love set and an oval stamp from A Muse.

I stamped the giraffe onto white cardstock then quickly colored it in with Copic markers.

I then went over the spots and whatnot with my Quickie Glue pen and added Berry Pink fun flock.

After I'd tapped that off I went over the rest of the giraffe with the glue pen and added Lemonade Yellow fun flock.

It turned out so cute and fuzzy!!:o)

I stamped the A Muse oval stamp then cut out the giraffe and adhered it on the oval with dimensionals.

I stamped the sentiment onto scrap cardstock then punched it out with a circle punch and matted it twice with another circle and scalloped circle.

I kept the inside simple as well with a bit of cardstock and twill ribbon and then stamped the giraffe with yellow ink and that was it!

Friday Sketch! #52

Wow! I've been posting a weekly sketch for a year now. Technically I've made over 60 sketches but this week marks one year (more or less - I missed a week here and there over the past year) of me posting a new one every week.

I had planned on having blog candy of some sort for this week's sketch to mark the occasion - and then totally forgot about it 'till now (you would have thought I'd remember with last week being #51 and it only being natural that #52 follows that but whatever).

Since I'm doing something new this week tho (see the end of this post) it will be smarter for me to leave off on the blog candy for now - if this works tho I will prolly do the bc next week!! :o)

On to the sketch!:

I'm thinking bright and cheerful thoughts this week - we had a nice big blizzard yesterday and all I really want is SPRING!

You may have noticed this layout from this card - I loved how it turned out so it's only natural that it became today's sketch :o)

Roundup - Friday Sketch! #51 Submissions

Woohoo!! Lots of participants last week - and lots of fabulous cards!!!

I got giddy every time I saw my sketch badge on your blogs - seriously SO cool *grin* (if you don't know what I'm talking about check out this post).

I'm still doing 10 random to feature - I'm thinking that if there's going to be more participants that I will start doing my 10 favorites - but for now it's still 10 random - so here they are.

Mermaid Anya

 

That's right. I've jumped on the The Greeting Farm bandwagon. I've been loving their stamps for a while and as soon as ATS got them in stock I ordered my first Anya stamps. LOVE them!!!!

I love the size of these stamps - they're perfect for playing around with your coloring. I pulled out my Copics for this mermaid Anya stamp, and I can't wait to try watercoloring and my prismacolor pencils and gamsol with some of the other images I got ;o)

I stamped the image onto white cardstock with Brilliance black ink and embossed it with detail clear embossing powder.

After I was done coloring I added stardust and lime ice stickles to bling it out.

The little gemstone thingies I found in my stash as I was rummaging through everything. They were the perfect color and size for the circles in her hair - so I added them then added a bunch more to the scallops along the bottom of the card.

The sentiment is from A Muse - after I stamped it I die cut it with one of mylabel trio dies then sponged the edges.

The ribbon is May Arts. 

All the patterned paper is from the Cosmo Cricket Snorkel line - it's so bright and cheerful yet distressed and funky. More paper to love!

I have to run - I promised my mom that I would help out at the coffee shop for a few hours today and tomorrow so I need to finish getting myself and the girls ready and head out!

Bunny Baskets

 

I HAD to get these done today - I had all the pieces cut out and the images colored and sitting on my desk - and I knew if I didn't finish them now I never would LOL!

These little round top boxes are a template from the SU site - you can download your own right here:

This was a technique challenge over on SCS last month too - you can check it out here (this was where I first found the template).

The idea to adhere two of the boxes together to make a basket I got from Julie here. As soon as I saw that I knew I had to make a couple for the girls!

I just printed off the template onto copy paper, cut it out then traced it onto cardstock. I used DoodleBug cardstockfor both baskets - on the 12x12 CS you can easily fit the template twice with some leftover.

After tracing, cutting out and assembling the boxes I adhered them back-to-back then punched out an oval for the handle and tied on some ribbon (SU!).

I stamped the images from the new CCD Hunny Bunny set onto white cardstock then colored them in with my Copics.

Once they were colored I highlighted areas with my white gel pen and cut them out.

I decided to adhere the images to the sides of the baskets as that way they hid all the seams LOL!

Other than the pink cardstock strips, and the yellow CS that I punched with my SU Eyelet Border punch (I am really liking that punch) I didn't add any other embellishments.

Since they're going to be given to Veronica and Josie closer to Easter I know what will eventually happen to them (well Veronica is old enough to take care of things but Josie still has some pretty destructive tendencies - with her own as well as V's toys) so I kept them as simple as possible!

The baskets turned out cut tho and I'm sure they'll love them (prolly not as much as the goodies that will be inside them but hey who can blame them LOL!!).

Here's the sample I promised to post today. I used the Gingersnaps Hey Cupid! set along with my Friend Sentiments set.

The layout is from one of our Wednesday Challenges over on the ATS blog - you can check it out here.

I stamped the mushroom gingersnap onto white cardstock then colored in the image with my Copics.

I added Stardust Sticklesto her wings and couldn't resist adding Christmas Red Stickles to her shoes - SO cute LOL!

I then cut out the image and adhered it with dimensionals to a die cut oval and scalloped oval.

The sentiment was stamped then die cut with one of my ribbon tag dies then I sponged the aqua ink over the sentiment while the die was still in place so that it had the border around it.

The embossing on the kiwi cardstock was made with the CB Floral Screen folder, then I added the strip of pink punched with the Martha Stewart Scalloped Lace punch.

I attached the sentiment with some satin ribbon then added some Prima flowers with mini brads and that finished off the front :)

On the inside of the card I stamped the Gingersnap mushroom image using the same color as the cardstock.

I then stamped the "Forever Friends" sentiment over it in black.

I added another embossed strip along with a piece of the pink "lace" and a bit of ribbon and that was it!

With 25 stamps in the set it's only $14 - seriously I WISH there were sets like this when I first started stamping. I would spend $40 on a sentiment set (that would maybe have 12 stamps in it) and only use 2 of the stamps b/c I didn't like the rest!!

EDITED TO ADD: A couple of people have asked me about the difference between this image and the one that appears on the ATS site - no worries if you order the Friend Sentiments set you get the FULL set shown here with 25 stamps. The image on the ATS site is only showing half the set at the moment - it will get updated when they get a free moment (things are crazy after a release!).

I hope you all love this set as much as I do - I can't stop using it and the rest of the Design Team has been inking it up like crazy as well.

Friends are flowers...

Thanks for all the well wishes on my last post! Thankfully when I woke up on Sunday I felt fine (for the most part - I think it's just a cold and it's just lingering and is so annoying) so I still got to go to the city to see my friend. I had made her birthday present and she really liked it (I'll be posting about that later this week) so that was good!

We did a bit of shopping (Dollarama and WalMart - woo!! LOL) and then went and saw Confessions of a Shopaholic in the theater - OMG that movie was SO funny. Total chic flick and we both loved it - if you're in to girly movies I really recommend it ;o)

When I got home last night I was exhausted (it's over an hour drive to the city) so I didn't post anything new - but I have something that I made last week to share now:

 

I recently got the Fifth Avenue Floral set from Stampin' Up! - LOVE that set! As soon as I saw it I HAD to have it. I decided to make a card using that set along with stamps from my Friend Sentiments set.

I die cut the main layer with the SU! Top Note die then stamped the flowers onto the CS using different Colorbox chalk inks. Then I spritzed on some brown with a SU! marker and color spritzer.

To get a border around the Top Note I trimmed the white one around the stitching lines then roughed that up with my edge distresser. I then cut a second Top Note from teal cardstock and layered the white one on top.

The teal rhinestones I had in my stash (they were My Mind's Eye ones and are self-adhesive - I got them years ago).

The sentiment from my Friend Sentiments set was stamped onto Pink Pirouette cardstock then cut out with one of the Label Trio Dies.

I added the Chocolate Taffeta (SU!) to the main layer then adhered the die cut sentiment on top of it.

I used my CuttleBug Floral Screen embossing folder on the pink cardstock before spritzing it with the brown marker and layering it.

 

On the inside of the card I die cut another Top Note and stamped and spritzed it like the one on the front (it really only took a couple of minutes to do), then stamped another sentiment from my Friend Sentiments set, die cut that with the Label Trio die and adhered it to the Top Note image.

I used scissors to trim the pink cardstock that was hanging over the edge of the Top Note before adhering it all to the inside of the card.
