Pretty Amazing

That's the name of the new Stampin' Up! set I just got - along with the matching Pretty Petals background stamp. These were the first stamps that caught my eye in the new catty and I HAD to have them - I just love these stamps!

I used the layout from this week's CPS sketch as my starting point.

I inked up the vine with markers, stamped them onto the white CS then used my Quickie Glue pen and Dazzling Diamonds glitter to add some bling to the leaves and blossoms.

I stamped the hummingbird (this is what sold me on the set - I adore this little bird!) separately, then used a blender pen and ink to color it in.

I then went over the entire bird with glue and covered it with Dazzling Diamonds glitter.

The flowers are from SU!'s Pretties kit - I used re-inkers and an Aqua Painter to dye them in the colors I wanted (Barely Banana and Pretty in Pink on the big flower and Regal Rose on the smaller one) then attached them to the card with a brad from the kit.

I finished off the card with some Pretty in Pink taffeta ribbon (something else I LOVE - taffeta ribbon!) and the cards base stamped with the Pretty Petals BG.

Love Notes

I've been making cards like CRAZY over the past week or so - and it feels good to be getting them done!

I pulled out my (retired) Stampin' Up! Olive You set (I LOVE this set and don't plan on ever getting rid of it! It's so cute!) and made 4 quick Valentine/Love cards with it.

I kept the layout on all of them the same - I just used a different image and different color on each card.

The only other stamp I used was A Muse's Mini Oval stamp on the Love Bug card.

I used Copic Markers to color in all the images, then punched them out with my Marvy Super Jumbo Circle Punch (the blue one).

I then matted them onto a Mega Scalloped Circle.

All the colored (including black) card stock used is Prism CS - I LOVE the texture of it and it's perfect for simple cards like this - the light texture just gives them that little extra "something".

I finished off each card with a few brads (did you notice I matched the brads on each card to the color of the scalloped circle? It's all in the little details.....*wink*).

I adhered each of them to a white card stock base (made with Papertrey White card stock of course - that stuff is THE best white card stock I've ever used. Lately I've been making almost ALL my cards into just card fronts then adhering them to a PT white base - I think it's just so much nicer that way).

I didn't even use any ribbon (or Primas!) on these!!!???? What was I thinking??

I suck!

So I guess I win the crappy friend award......I made this card almost 2 months ago to send to a friend who had surgery, and I found it in the bottom of my (mammoth) purse the other day when I was cleaning it out. *smacks forehead*

I thought I had mailed it way back when and it turns out I didn't!! Sorry Julie!! (yeah it was for you!).

PMSabella was perfect for the occasion (as she was supposed to take it easy after her surgery!), and the "relax..." sentiment is from A Muse (the whole thing reads "Relax...it's your day).

I used Copic markers to color her in.

The ribbon is May Arts (the dual sheer ribbons are so pretty!), flowers are Prima, and the patterned paper is from the Costco K&Co slab (this paper has glitter on it).

Hi, I am just wondering how you store your scrap paper? Do you have an easy, efficient way to do it? I need to organize with the little options I have for storage!Thanks, Kris Reynolds

I still have the drawer with the file folders to keep all my scraps in since I mainly use Stampin' Up! CS - and I am STILL trying to figure out what to do about my Bazzill and Prism CS as they're stored in the Cropper Hopper Vertical paper holders and I don't want to just toss the scraps into those (makes it more of a pain to get to them...).

Does anyone know if you can get IKEA delivered.  The closest is in Chicago and we are in Columbia Missouri 125 miles west of St. Louis

Yes you can. Just go to IKEA.com and select your country and go from there. I have NO idea what the shipping charges are - and not all items that you can see online are available to order - you have to go to an actual IKEA store to get them.

Do you buy your cards and then embellish them? or cut cardstock n fold? What dimensions, I am terrible in math, please help me on how if cardstock is used.

I use card stock - mostly Stampin' Up! but I have a lot of Bazzill and Prism card stock as well that I frequently use. I mainly stick to the 8 1/2 x 11" card stock then cut it in half to make my cards - so unless I specify otherwise all my cards are standard A2 size (4.25 x 5.5").

If I'm using 12x12 CS I cut out a 5.5 x 8.5 piece and fold it in half to get my A2 size card.

What do you use to outline your images for that shadow effect?
Do you use a color chart or do you have any tips on combining colors into a design?

For the first one I answered that here.

You know I never use color charts - I have Stampin' Up!'s Color Coach but I never use it (but back when I first got it when I was newer to stamping - I used it ALL the time! I really recommend it b/c I found it really helped me to think out of the box with color combos as I tended to use the SAME colors all the time).

When I'm using patterned papers (which I do a lot!) I pick the colors from the paper to use on the rest of the card - which makes it easy (for me) since then the color combo is already "set" and I go from there.

When it comes to using color - stick to no more than 3 or 4 main colors for your cards - using more than that can overwhelm the design (it can be done you just have to be careful!).

One thing that not only helps but is FUN too - is to participate in the Color Challenges on Splitcoast. There is a new one every Tuesday and once you get into them I find it helps you to view colors in a different way!

Love your cards!!! Thank you for sharing. I just recently received my Bellas in the mail and I have never used this kind of stamps before (not cling, no wood mounted) soooo, any suggestions on what works best for these?? I am dying to ink them!

I mount all my Bellas on EZmount now b/c all my other UM stamps are this way and sticking to only one system works best for me - but at the end of that (long) post I show how you can use just double-sided tape and an acrylic block for the Bellas.

When do you find the best time to stamp and how do you keep your kids occupied while you do your creating?

I really LOVE mornings - and I find that is when I'm most creative. I try to stamp every morning but it doesn't always work out that way. My studio is in an area just off of (and practically part of) our living room so I have the girls in here with me the enitre time. They have a bunch of their toys in here and a lot of the time they both sit right up at my desk and watch (and give input by pointing out things they want me to use and generally chatting up a storm. It's hilarious but at times (like when Veronica is in the mood to shriek "No not that!", "Don't use that!", "Oh no you're gonna wreck it!" - EVERY time I reach for something or do something) - I'm ready to pull my hair out LOL!).

Josie still takes naps in the afternoon so I try to get more done then as it's just Veronica and me I can stamp and she colors and we chat and have a grand time.

And then there's the days where all I deal with is spilled milk (or cereal, or soup or whatever can be found and poured all over the floor!) and constant meltdowns/tantrums/fighting.....needless to say I don't get much done on those days!

What die-cutting machine would you recommend for first (or possibly only) purchase?? Thanks!

The first and only machine I've ever used is the CuttleBug - so that's what I recommend! It is super-easy to use and they have a TON of dies and folders for it, and you can use other companies dies (like Spellbinders Nestabilities) in it too.

Help!

I'm stuck under a pile of paper-crafting goodies and I can't get out!

This is just a small area of my desk - but trust me you can't even SEE the desk....

I have been SOOOO good lately at cleaning up after I finish a project - but the past few days.....well.......

OK that Wii is just too addicting!!! *wink*

Tim and I have been bowling and playing tennis together and it seriously is SO much fun - and we got a second controller with a nunchuk (WOW I couldn't believe how much those things are!) so we can start boxing too LOL.

We're showing Veronica how to play too - she's slowly getting the hang of it! Josie *thinks* she knows what she's doing (she's 2) and we let her - she's our cheering section - LOVE it...

No more procrastinating - I gotta get my desk cleaned up and get about 6 loads of laundry done......

Friday Sketch! #3

OK here's Friday's Sketch! (don't forget to scroll down and see the scrapbook sketch I did in the previous post if you're interested!).

Tim's boss announced recently that his wife was pregnant again so I made them a "congrats" card just for fun (and colored it to look like them LOL!).

It gave me an excuse to use my expectafellabella stamp from Stamping Bella too! The sentiment is by A Muse.

I used Copic markers to color in the image, and instead of matting it I just used my Scor-pal to score lines along each edge - just to give it a little extra "something".

The flowers are fabric Prima Esprites - and I tied the riggon through the flower centers to hold them in place (this works best with fabric flowers as paper ones tear much easier).

I'm a DIVA Again! And a Scrapbook Page Sketch...

GinaK's Design Team was asked to participate in this week's Splitcoast DIVA Scrapbook challenge and I was able to get a couple of pages done for it! (A MAJOR accomplishment for me b/c ever since I did the inaugural DIVA challenge with Papertrey I haven't scrapped a page since! So much for my New Year's resolution eh??)

These pages came easy for me though - I've had the idea for them for months and so it was only a matter of clearing some space off my desk and getting to work!

I took these pictures back in the summer before we moved - and when Gina released her Make a Wish - Stamps For a Cause set with the dandelion image I KNEW I'd have to use that with these pictures on a scrapbook page!

This is a 2-page layout - the pages are 8x8" (I am LOVING this size - I used to do 12x12 pages and while I like having more room for pictures, I started to dread making them b/c they took up so much room on my desk and it was just getting difficult to be able to get a page done without having every available surface covered! Now that I'm doing this size tho I can do a 2-page layout and it doesn't take nearly as long and doesn't take up nearly as much space! LOVE it!).

I was originally only going to have one 4x6 picture per page, but as I was going through all the pics I had taken I found so many more that I wanted to use! So I came up with this layout:

I cropped the main pictures to 3x5", and the smaller ones to 2.5x4".

GinaK's dandelion stamp was inked up with craft ink, stamped onto the card stock, then embossed with Iridescent Ice (Stampin' Up!) embossing powder.

The letters are all die-cut - I just love how they turned out!

I used a couple of pieces of Pink Passion (SU!) card stock - covered them with VersaMark ink then with Iridescent Ice EP and heated them. Once they had cooled I used my CuttleBug Red Tag Sale Alphabet to cut out the letters I needed.

EDITED TO ADD: Yes I am quite proud of my idea to make glittery card stock to die cut the letters from (at first I was planning on die cutting the letters then covering them with some sort of adhesive and THEN covering them with glitter - but then I thought "there has to be a better (less messier!) way!!" and came up with this idea). For something even EASIER - you can actually buy glitterfied card stock in yummy colors - DoodleBug Sugar Coated CS to be exact - which will definitely be going on my next order from ATS (b/c I STILL had VersaMark and Iridescent Ice EP all over the place....).

I also used that alpha set to die cut 2 small tags (the set comes with a die for one large and one smaller tag) that I stapled ribbon to and slipped behind each main picture to use for the journalling.

The ribbon is from Michaels (I used sticky strip to attach the ribbon to the bottom of the page), the flowers are Prima and I used Dollarama (jumbo) brads and Bazzill Brads to attach them.

Tidbits and What Copic I Use To Outline My Images

My Friday Sketch post will be coming later today (in fact I will have TWO sketches to share this time - just wait and see!!...) but I wanted to answer the question that has been asked of me several times lately:

What are you using to outline your stamped images?

I either use my Copic C-1 Cool Gray No. 1 or my Copic BG10 Cool Shadow marker <---that was is the really pale aqua/blue color all y'all are seeing.

So now you know!

Piggies and Wiis and Birdies....

LOL so I see there are a LOT of you out there that love your Wii's!! Too fun. Thank you everyone for the game suggestions - Guitar Hero is now on the list (thankfully Tim's birthday is only a couple of months away and I'm thinking that might be the perfect gift! He got to try the game out yesterday at a co-workers house and had a blast!)

Tim is friends with another couple here in town and they have a Wii and have invited us over to play with them (they have a HUGE TV and with our new controller plus theirs we'll have enough for us to all play at once - which will be interesting as I haven't yet played it!) so we'll get to try out what games they have before we have to start buying our own (sadly you can't rent them here in town - and the closest Blockbuster is over an hour from here...)

I haven't even unpacked our Wii yet - I was too tired last night and today I've been busy with the girls and getting things done for DT deadlines - and besides I'll let Tim do all the unpacking and hooking up and "technical stuff" when he gets home from work *wink*

ANYWHO - on to the cards!!

Did I mention I LOVE CC Designs two new sets? Well I do!

I stamped the love birds from the Love Ya Much set, then colored them in with Copic Markers and punched out the image with my Marvy Mega Scalloped oval punch.

The patterned paper is from the Ba Ba Black Sheep line by Piggy Tales - I used the green side of one of the papers and ran it through my CuttleBug with the A2 Heart Blocks Embossing Folder.

The red felt flowers are from the pack Lauren got me from Target (100 flowers for $1! Can't beat that...) and I attached them to the card with Sahara Sand Eyelets (from Stampin' Up!).

The velvet ric rac is May Arts (yet another thing I LOVE - it is the softest and most plush ribbon EVER...)

For this card I used the piggy from the Love Ya Lots set - colored him in with Copic markers, then masked him and stamped A Muse's Mini Oval as ground.

I punched him out with my Marvy Super Jumbo Scalloped Circle punch, and the patterned paper with the Mega Scalloped Circle.

The patterned paper is from the same Piggy Tales collection.

The ribbon is from Stampin' Up! - last year's Winter Mini - I bought an extra pack of it before it retired of course! *wink*

The sentiment is also by A Muse - I stamped it onto the black card stock and embossed it with white embossing powder.

Another Target felt flower attached with an eyelet and that was it!

Our new Wii!! YAY!

We were "given" one for Christmas - but it was only a picture of the system with an IOU - LOL!

They sold out everywhere before Christmas and we haven't been able to get it till now!

*this is gonna be FUN!!*

EDITED TO ADD: Tim's dad picked it up for us at WalMart (his parents were the ones that gave us the IOU for x-mas) - I guess he got a tip that they had some in stock - so he called them this morning and they said they got *6* and weren't putting them out until their supervisor arrived (this was the Kindersley, SK location) - and I guess they agreed to hold one for him so he ended up driving there (45 minutes from here!) to get it for us - how cool is that?

Now to start deciding what game or two to get (Super Mario Galaxy is already on my list - I can't wait tho till they come out with MarioKart for the Wii - that will be so cool. Tim and I used to play that on the N64 with friends ALL the time (that was back when we first started dating 8 years ago! I can't believe it's already been that long!)).....

Anna-Mae's Valentine

I was in a real "Valentine-theme" moos yesterday - so I pulled out the new set from GinaK (her daughter Alicia illustrated this set!) called Anna-Mae's Valentine and started to color...

I used Copic Markers to color in the main image, then stamped the sentiment along the side.

The patterned paper is from a pack I got at my LSS (local scrapbook store) the other day by My Minds Eye (all gorgeous Valentiny patterned papers - just what I needed!).

January Papertrey Release

Last night marked the release of two new Papertrey sets - Mixed Messages and Out on a Limb - both awesome sets!

My sets *just* arrived yesterday afternoon so I had to scramble to get my samples made in time - I hope y'all like them!

Sadly my heart shaped tins haven't arrived yet and will prolly be at least a good week till they get here - I can't wait to get my hands on them!

Anywho - this first card uses the new Mixed Messages set along with PT's Beautiful Blooms stamp set.

I just love how small all the sentiments are in the set - they fit on all kinds of things (CuttleBug Tiny Tags dies, small punches, the smaller Nestabilities dies etc etc etc).

For this card I stamped the flower then stamped the sentiment as the flower center (and enhanced it with a medium Making Memories Page Pebble).

I used my Marvy Giga Scalloped Rectangle Punch for the black part, and cut a slit through the card underneath it to thread the ribbon through.

For this card I stamped the limb, flowers and berries using Stampin' Up! Classic inks then added dots of Bravo Burgundy ink with an AquaPainter for the flower centers.

The scalloped rectangle was made with a Nestabilities die (I cut it out first then stamped it), and after stamping the sentiment I used my Making Memories Ribbon Notch Tool to make the holes to slide the ribbon through.

I think this was the first time EVER that I've made a card entirely out of patterned paper!

I used Chatterbox patterned card stock (it's heavier weight than their paper) called Soft Flowering Vine (from the Loft Collection). I have had it in my stash for well over a year if not two - I couldn't even tell you where I got it from it was that long ago!

Anyway I made the card from the patterned card stock, and for the inside I used my Largest Scalloped Rectangle Nestabilities die on white card stock to adhere to the inside to give it a more finished look.

STAMPS: Out on a Limb. CS: Papertrey White, Black, Chatterbox Small Flowering Vine card stock. INK: Old Olive, Regal Rose, Bravo Burgundy and Bashful Blue Classic Inks (Stampin' Up!), Versafine Onyx Black.
ACCESSORIES: Scalloped Rectangle Nestabilities Die, Corner Rounder Punch, Making Memories Ribbon Slot Punch, Wide Rose Grosgrain Ribbon.

I really love how this tin turned out! It's one of Papertrey's Large Hinged Tins, and I just traced the lid onto a piece of Kraft card stock with a pencil and cut it out to cover. I did a second piece to fit on the inside of the lid.

I stamped the limb onto the card stock with Chocolate Chip Craft ink, then I took the 3 little hearts from the My Punny Valentine set and stamped them in Regal Rose, Real Red and Whisper White ink.

The sentiment is from Mixed Messages (this one sentiment is my favorite!) and I stamped it onto a CuttleBug Tiny Tags Die-cut, then attached it to the card stock with 2 Making Memories heart brads.

For the inside of the lid I stamped the sentiments - making sure to keep them far enough apart to be able to stamp the heart.

Both the outside and inside pieces were edged with White Craft Ink before adhering.

To finish off the tin I adhered red Satin May Arts ribbon around the edge (fits perfectly).
