If this is all Greek to you (as it was to ME before I got my CuttleBug!!) then you can skip this post!! Come back to it tho if you do get bitten by the Bug!! *grin*
OK people are asking me about the Big Impressions Starter Kit (BISK - I got mine here). And yes it's true - you will NOT get as deep an impression as a CuttleBug Embossing folder. WHY?? Well - the CB embossing folders emboss both the front AND the back of the CS and you can see how deep of an impression they make.
Now w/ the BISK - you only have ONE side to emboss - and you can see that the impressions in it aren't as deep as the CuttleBug's folders are. So no - no matter what you will NEVER get *as deep* of an impression w/ the BISK as you do w/ a CB folder.
But ya know what?? I'm fine w/ that - and sometimes I actually prefer the lighter impression - it's more subtle. AND the BISK has a ton of fab patterns the CB folders don't come in (like PAISLEY!!!! LOL).
One thing to help get a slightly deeper impression tho is to mist your CS w/ water before running it through (my bud Keri mists hers w/ rubbing alcohol b/c it dries way faster and she has literally no wait time!). I find you get a much better impression when the CS is lightly damp. I just use water and then blast the CS w/ my heat gun when it comes out (and yes it DOES warp the CS but I glue it down really good when I put it on the card and have no problems that way).
Also for those wanting to know what "sandwich" to make when using the BISK in your CuttleBug - mine goes:
CuttleBug A plate, Ellison texture plate w/ pattern I want facing UP, CS (slightly damp and the "front" of the CS facing DOWN), silicone rubber mat, black plain BISK plate.
That one works for me every time!!
So just make sure that you have the BISK FIRST to start out with, then you can get any of the three other sets of Ellison Texture Plates (you can see those here, here, and here) or the Fiskars Texture Plates (which I don't have yet but they are really cheap so I'm sure I'll get them eventually!!)
I hope this answers any questions y'all had about the BISK - I'm still new to this whole die-cutting/embossing machine craze but I'm learning!! And heck if **I** can figure it out then it should be a cake walk for the rest of you!! *grin*
Edited to add - please read this post as well!! (click!-------> FYI!!)
