Papertrey - "It's In The Bag" Challenge

Pt_july_1_coffee_bag_challenge_by_a Yup it's the first again (happy Canada Day to all my Canuck readers!!) which means another challenge for the Papertrey Senior Design Team members.

This month's challenge was to use Papertrey's coffee bags in whatever cool way we wanted to. I must admit mine isn't totally mind blowing as I kept it pretty simple - but I still like how it turned out!

I feel like I was channeling Pine as I created this - I was really in a mood for white, Kraft and black - and stuck with just that.

I used PT's large white windowed coffee bag, and I filled it with all sorts of great pampering goodies - bath salts, soaps, hand and foot butters etc. I LOVE that these bags have a plastic lining - it's great for baked good and also for things like this as the soaps can't leave any residue on the bags to soak through to mar the outside. PLUS if you're packaging a gift like this that is scented (as all these products are) the bag really helps keep the scent IN the bag if you know what I mean.

This bag does have a window but I didn't want to have the contents visible (more of a surprise that way) so I created a band out of PT Kraft cardstock. I used black CS and cut a scalloped trim from it with Fiskars cloud scissors, then adhered it to the Kraft CS.

Pt_july_1_coffee_bag_challenge_closThe stamped images are from PT's Flower Garden stamp set, I stamped the stems onto the Kraft with white pigment ink. The flowers were stamped onto white CS with black ink, then cut out, and I attached buttons to the centers with black embroidery floss before attaching the flowers with dimensionals.

I created the "From Your Favorite Bunch" sentiment using the Flower Garden Sentiment set, a 1" circle punch and Marvy's extra jumbo scalloped circle punch.

Paper Piecing Tutorial

I know I used Papertrey's Bitty Baby Blessings set for my last newsletter tutorial (and Debbie also used it for her tutorial last week and made THE most adorable bib card), but I HAD to make up more baby cards (is it just me or does anyone else notice that there seems to be a major demand for all things baby-related this summer??? I am constantly in need of baby cards and gifts!) - and this set is beyond perfect for creating quick, simple CUTE baby cards in a snap! And when you combine the Bitty Baby Blessings set with Papertrey's 6x6 collection of patterned papers, Perfect Match cardstocks and ribbon you have a plethora of options to make even the simplest of cards look like it came straight from a boutique!

Pt_june_27_newsletter_1_by_amyr I started with a few sheets from PT's 6x6 patterned paper collection.

Pictured from left to right are papers from: Bitty Baby Blessings, Father Knows Best, Pink Patterns and Everyday Blessings.

I prefer to use the 6x6 papers for paper piecing as the scaled-down patterns (50% of the 12x12 paper patterns) are PERFECT for smaller images such as the ones in the Bitty Baby Blessings stamp set.

Pt_june_27_newsletter_2_by_amyr I decided to make 6 cards - each one using a different image from the set.

As you can see I stamped some of the images more than once onto different patterns - you will see why when you scroll down.

A good black ink like Palette Noir works great when paper piecing.

Pt_june_27_newsletter_3_by_amyr For the onesie and duck image all that needed to be done was to cut them out (I use small detail scissors when cutting out stamped images - they are great for getting into corners and whatnot - Stampin' Up! has a great pair and the Cutterbee brand ones are similar if not the same thing).

Pt_june_27_newsletter_4_by_amyr For images like this I cut out certain pieces from the second stamped image and adhered it over the first - it gives them that extra pattern to define them.

Notice with the elephant I cut the tail right off - that was on purpose. It would be too difficult (and time consuming) to cut around the tail - scroll down to see how I fixed that tho.

Pt_june_27_newsletter_5_by_amyr I stamped the elephant image onto a square of white cardstock (that was cut and embossed with a square Nestabilities die) then adhered the paper-pieced elephant over top - so he got his tail back!

Pt_june_27_newsletter_6_by_amyr I did the same thing with the boat and carriage - I stamped the images onto the white CS then adhered the paper pieced images over top.

I use Tombow Mono Multi glue when paper piecing - a tiny dot here and there adheres them down perfectly and I am able to glue down even the tiniest of pieces with this glue.

Pt_june_27_newsletter_paper_piecing

And here are the finished cards!

I used the same layout for all of them, using my Scalloped Square Nestabilities die to cut a mat out of coordinating Papertrey cardstock.

I used the same patterned paper on each card to match the main image, and tied coordinating PT twill ribbon around it before adhering it to the card base and attaching the scalloped mat with dimensionals. On the inside of each card I stamped a sentiment from the Bitty Baby Blessings set.

I used Copic markers to color in the duck's beak, the wheels and parts of the carriage and the openings of the baby onesie to give them all a more "finished" look, and that was it!

Papertrey June Release Samples - Flower Garden

Pt_fg_thanks_a_bunch_by_amyr I had to take a break from the computer - after all the uploading, editing, posting during the release party, and now uploading and posting all these blog samples I've spent HOURS on the computer tonight!!

I was so excited to get Lisa's debut Papertrey sets - she did such a fabulous job on it and I hope my samples do it justice!! I can't wait to play with it some more.

For this sample I stamped the large line flower image onto white cardstock and colored it in with Copic markers before cutting it out. I then stamped the stem onto Spring Moss CS, colored it in then adhered the flower with dimensionals.

The sentiment was created with the Flower Garden Sentiments set (such a cute little set and a steal for only $5!) then punched out with a circle punch.

I stamped just the grid-line stamp from the Guide Lines stamp set onto the Berry Sorbet card base.

The hole in the Spring Moss CS was made with my MM Ribbon Slot Punch.

Pt_fg_stripe_card_by_amyr This card is SO simple - but it's one of my favorites from all the samples I made.

I got inspired from a commercial MONTHS ago and jotted a card idea down in my notebook, and when I was thinking of what samples to make with the Flower Garden set I thought I'd try out my idea and see what happened - this was the result!

I cut strips from 6 of Papertrey's cardstocks, and adhered them side by side to a white card base.

I then took this flower from the Flower garden set and stamped it onto a transparency strip with White Stazon ink - I rotated the flower a bit each time I stamped it.

Then to attach the transparency to the card I pierced holes through each of the flower centers and attached them with a white brad. And that's it!

I debated adding a sentiment as I love the font of the ones in the flower garden set (and the little sentiment set), but I think it looks better as is. When I need to I'll just stamp a sentiment on the inside.

I really love how this card turned out - and in real life the transparency is clear and not dark like it is in the picture - it's wicked hard to get a good shot of something CLEAR!

I'm thinking this is going to be a GREAT type of card for me to make and use up a bunch of scraps!!

OK now I'm off to bed as it's well after midnight here and I have a lot to get done tomorrow!

Papertrey June Release Samples - Guide Lines

Pt_gl_thanks_by_amyrI have to admit - when Nichole first showed the DT the sneak peek of the Guide Lines stamp set - I didn't "get" it. I thought the set was cool - but wasn't sure how much I would really love it you know what I mean? But when it arrived (and after seeing all the fabulous things Nichole did with it) and I started playing with it - my thoughts turned from "ummmm" to "yeah! LOVE it!!" LOL

Nichole is seriously BRILLIANT when it comes to designing sets like this - the lines really do line up super easily when stamping a full sheet, and all the elements are a breeze to line up and stamp.

On the first sample I used Lemon Tart and Summer Sunrise inks, and a Maya Road clear flower that I tinted with Summer Sunrise ink. The sentiment is from the Out on a Limb Sentiments set (I used my SU! Key Tag punch and Making Memories Ribbon Slot Punch to make the slider).

Pt_gl_one_person_by_amyr I went for a completely different look on this card.

I stamped the elements from the Guidelines set onto Kraft CS using Lavender Moon and Plum Pudding Inks, then took Star Dust Stickles and dotted various points of the stamped elements.

The sentiment is also from the Out On A Limb sentiments set (I see myself using these a LOT - they are fabulous sentiments and the larger size makes them a lot easier to read - quite  few people I know had trouble reading the older, smaller sentiments), I matted it with black CS then attached it to the card with DoodleBug brads (slipping a couple of Prima daisies under before attaching it).

Papertrey June Release Samples - Birds of a Feather

Pt_boaf_just_hatched_by_amyr Y'all already saw one of my samples using the Birds of a Feather set - and here are 3 more!

I incorporated the new Revised Out On A Limb set with some of these samples (and you'll see snippets of the set and the new larger sentiments with some of my other June samples) - I was glad to pull this old favorite out and use it again!

I stamped the branch and the NEW leaf image onto white CS (I stamped the leaf image 3 times to get a fuller look), the added the nest (stamped onto Kraft CS, then cut out and adhered with dimensionals) and eggs.

The sentiment is from the BoaF set (I think I already gushed about loving the font in this set - but yeah I love it!), and I made the scallops by punching out circles from Aqua Mist CS and adhering them under the chocolate chip mat.

Pt_boaf_little_birdie_by_amyr This was another quick and easy card - I had a piece of patterned paper from PT's Everyday Blessings 12x12 pack sitting here and the open CD case with the stamps was laying on top of it (along with who knows what else - my desk is a DISASTER when I'm trying to meet a deadline - I have LAYERS of stuff to clean up now!) and I though "hmmmm that looks kinda cool!!" so I made it into this!

I stamped the line from the stamp (it wasn't too hard to get it straight on the acrylic block, then I had to stamp it twice b/c the paper was wider than the stamp), then the birdies, and scalloped the bottom edge with my corner rounder punch (tutorial on that here).

The sentiment was stamped onto white CS then punched out with one of Stampin' Up!'s oval punches. I added a little strip of black CS behind it, matted the patterned paper on another piece of black CS and attached it to a white card base and that was it!

Pt_boaf_with_sympathy_by_amyr Last but not least I have this sympathy card that I made using the NEW Papertrey Vintage Cream cardstock - just you wait till you get it in your hands - is it ever FABULOUS CS! The color is just right and the weight is just slightly lighter than the Stamper's Select White, and it has a slightly smoother texture too. It's an awesome addition to the Papertrey CS lineup!!

I was thinking lilacs when I made this card - my back yard is surrounded by lilac bushes (makes it completely private - love that) and they're all in bloom right now - lovely light purple and a deep purple tree and even a sprinkle of white ones facing the back alley.

I used the Revised OOAL set again, stamping the flowers in Lavender Moon, then inking up the single flower stamp with Plum Pudding and randomly stamping it here and there.

I stamped the sentiment from the Birds of a Feather set with VersaFine Onyx black ink, then inked up the hummingbird with the same and stamped it.

Papertrey June Release Samples - Boards and Beams

Pt_bab_gable_box_by_amyr Woot woot! I got all my projects done for the June release - however with it being thisclose to the actual RELEASE the site is getting bogged down and I can't get my pics uploaded to the gallery. No biggie tho as I can share my projects on here and will upload my PT gallery in the next day or tow when it's a little slower.

So here are my samples using the new Boards and Beams stamp set - OMG do I ever LOVE this set!! I had a blast creating these few samples and I have already started thinking about what else I can make and who I can send gifts to using this set - there is just something so classic and timeless about it - the clean lines and attention to detail is FABULOUS (and typical of Nichole!!).

For this first sample I used one of Papertrey's Small White Gable Boxes - I created a band out of Spring Moss cardstock, stamped the trees with Spring Moss ink, then stamped the fence with VersaMark and embossed it with white embossing powder.

I stamped the house image on PT white CS, used Copic markers to color it in then cut it out and adhered it to the band with dimensionals.

The sentiment was stamped onto Stampin' Up! Creamy Caramel CS, cut out (I used their key tag punch to round the edges a bit) then adhered to the box.

I finished it off with a little Spring Moss ribbon tied in a bow and that was it!

My thinking behind this box is that it would be great for a new homeowner - you could fill it with a mini flash light, some push pins, tape, etc etc etc - you know all those little things you NEED when you first move and then can't seem to find???

Pt_bab_house_card_by_amyr I had a hard time getting a really good picture of this card - it looks a LOT neater in real life!

I stamped the house onto PT's Kraft CS with VersaMark then embossed it with clear embossing powder. I then took my Prismacolor pencils (haven't used those in a long time) and colored it all in.

The trees, fence and walkway were also stamped and embossed on Kraft CS, then the house was adhered on top using dimensionals.

Pt_bab_house_card_closeup_by_amyr Pt_bab_house_card_inside_by_amyr (all these pictures can be clicked on for a pop-up window with a larger image).

I LOVE this set of sentiments with the set - I stamped the house on the inside with Creamy Caramel (SU!) ink then stamped the sentiment.

Pt_bab_no_place_by_amyr This last sample I threw together in MINUTES - I couldn't put the set down and had to make just one more thing. I wanted to show how you don't HAVE to color in the houses - I stamped them onto Plum Pudding CS (loving this new color!) with VersaMark then embossed them with clear embossing powder.

I took a very light gray Prismacolor pencil and colored in parts of just one of the houses to make it stand out.

The ribbon is the new Plum Pudding Swiss dot satin, I used my Making Memories Ribbon Slot punch to make the holes next to the sentiment to slip it through.

Papertrey June Release Countdown - 2

It seems that this time of the month (countdown to the newest Papertrey release) arrives quicker and quicker each month - already it's JUNE! And that means a new PT release on the 15th - so here is my countdown release sample using Papertrey's soon-to-be-released Birds of a Feather set by Candice (wait till you see the entire set!!)

Since it is also Friday and I always post my Friday Sketch today - I thought instead of having 2 separate posts I could incorporate my sketch with my countdown project - so those that always look forward to the sketch won't be disappointed! You will find the sketch at the end of this post!

Pt_june_countdown_1_by_amyr I started with a piece of white Papertrey cardstock, a pencil and the template and largest tag rims from the Making Memories circle tag rims set.

You just trace the size of circle you need with the pencil, and cut out with scissors. The cutting doesn't need to be exact as the edge gets covered by the tag rims.

Pt_june_countdown_2_by_amyr I then inked up the hummingbird image with PT's Aqua Mist ink (I was going to say the hummingbird is my favorite out of the set but after playing with it I am loving all the bird images!) and stamped it onto one of the circles.

Pt_june_countdown_3_by_amyr Next I used my Quickie Glue pen and went over the image, then pressed white Fun Flock onto the adhesive. Y'all may remember the tutorial I did not too long ago using fun flock - this is the same idea but instead of filling in the lines I just went over the entire solid image.

You can also stamp the image with a glue pad then cover it with flock - but I wanted the Aqua Mist color so I did it this way (white fun flock is pretty much transparent when applied - a tip I picked up from Lauren!).

Pt_june_countdown_6_by_amyr_2 Here's a slanted view of the finished card so you can see the added texture.

Pt_june_countdown_4_by_amyr For the other circle I stamped the flower image and stem from the set using Lavender Moon and Spring Moss inks.

I then inserted both circles into the tag rims and pressed them shut with the tag maker - takes seconds to do!

Pt_june_countdown_5_by_amyr And here is my finished card!!

I used a strip of patterned paper from Papertrey's Everyday Blessings 12x12 paper pack (the designs on the papers go really well with the images of this bird set I think) along with a piece of Aqua Mist cardstock. The sentiment is from the Birds of a Feather set (such a great font!), and the ribbon is Lavender Moon Satin ribbon.

Don't forget to check out Nichole's sneak peek post (as if you weren't stalking her blog already *wink*) using this set, as well as Candice's blog as she's been posting cards with her set as well!

Bee Happy Card

Pt_bee_happy_card_by_amyr I have been wanting to play more with the new Honey Bees stamp set by Papertrey ever since it was released and I finally got my chance!

I stamped the largest bee image onto Papertrey White cardstock (that I used my circle nestabilities die to cut out) with black ink, then stamped the body with PT's Lemon Tart ink.

I left the die on the CS and airbrushed the blue on with a Copic marker and the Copic airbrush system - the die left a light border around the edge - it's subtle but nice!

The scalloped circle was cut from Lemon Tart CS (I am LOVING this color - it is such a light, happy shade of yellow!) with a scalloped circle nestabilities die, then adhered to the card base with dimensionals.

The light blue CS is Prism, I wrapped the Lemon Tart ribbon around it, tied the bow separately and attached it with a glue dot.

I finished off the card by stamping the sentiment with black ink, then stamping one of the small flowers from the set with Lemon Tart ink.

Papertrey - "Simply Irresistible" Challenge

It's that time again - time for the Papertrey Senior Design Team gals to get together and participate in a challenge issued to us by Nichole! This month's challenge was to do something with a resist technique - whether it be an old technique or something completely new. I chose to do the clear emboss resist - so simple yet it has such a cool look to it!

Pt_june_1_challenge_1_by_amyr I chose the Women of Life set for my project, and stamped the cluster flower stamp onto PT white cardstock with VersaMark then embossed them with clear embossing powder.

Pt_june_1_challenge_2_by_amyr I then pulled out my Lavender Moon ink pad and a sponge dauber and sponged ink over the flowers. The clear embossing powder resists the ink so that the flowers "pop" and appear white (this is a great technique if you want to use multiple colors of ink - for my project I wanted to stick with just the one color).

Pt_june_1_challenge_3_by_amyr I used a sharp pair of detail scissors (these ones are from Stampin' Up!) to cut out the flowers leaving a small border around each one.

Pt_june_1_challenge_4_by_amyr To finish off each flower I added buttons sewed on with string.

Pt_june_1_challenge_finished_card_b And here's my finished card!

I stamped the stems onto PT Aqua Mist CS using Spring Moss ink (I purposely stamped them more to the left for visual interest).

The sentiment is also from the Women of Life set - I omitted the dots when I inked it up.

The green "strip" is actually Spring Moss twill ribbon - it didn't show up well in this photo.

Simple Fuzzy Baby Cards

I don't know about the rest of you but lately it seems like I am surrounded by pregnant women and new babies!! I am constantly in need of baby cards (not just for me as I get requests from people who would rather give a handmade card than buy one at the store) and baby gift ideas - and as time for me is usually limited I want my cards to be cute yet simple at the same time.

I decided to use Papertrey's new Bitty Baby Blessings set (PERFECT for pretty much every baby card/gift one needs to make - the variety of sentiments alone make it a MUST have set!!) along with some Fun Flock to create some simple, fuzzy baby cards:

Pt_newsletter_may_21_by_amyr_1 I started with some Sunshiny Yellow Fun Flock (by Stampendous, there is also a line of DoodleBug flock that's great too) that is a GREAT match to Papertrey's Summer Sunrise color, black ink, the Bitty Baby Blessings Stamp set, and some liquid adhesive.

Pt_newsletter_may_21_by_amyr_6I generally use one of three different glues when applying Fun Flock - the Quickie Glue pen by Sakura (great for small areas and detail work), Tombow Mono Multi (my go-to adhesive for everything), or the 2-Way Glue Pen from Stampin' Up! (I like it's thinner consistency and that it goes on blue but dries clear - FYI I used this adhesive for applying the flock on this card).

Pt_newsletter_may_21_by_amyr_2 I started by stamping the duck image onto Papertrey white cardstock with black ink. I then filled in the image with the 2-Way glue pen.

Pt_newsletter_may_21_by_amyr_3 I immediately dumped a liberal amount of flock over the image (I use coffee filters to catch the extra flock and funnel it back into the container. I re-use the filters over and over again with the same colors - this works great for glitter and embossing powder too!).

Pt_newsletter_may_21_by_amyr_4Before tapping off the excess flock I PRESS all over the image to make as much flock adhere as possible (this step is important as I find that if you DON'T press the flock on not much will stick!).

Pt_newsletter_may_21_by_amyr_5 And that's it! Fun Flock is EASY to use and adds such a fun texture to a project and is GREAT for anything baby-related - who can resist that fuzzy texture?

And since I know I will be asked no the flock doesn't come off later on - you can touch it and rub your finger over the image and hardly any comes off (a good thing since the recipient and anyone else who sees the card will instantly want to touch it!).

Pt_newsletter_may_21_by_amyr_10 I finished off the main image by coloring the duck's bill with a copic marker and outlining the image with another marker.

The scalloped mat was made from Summer Sunrise CS and a scalloped square Nestabilities die, then I added some patterned paper from the Father Knows Best 6x6 collection and a piece of Lemon Tart CS.

The sentiment is from the Bitty Baby Blessings set.

Pt_newsletter_may_21_by_amyr_7

For a little bonus here are 2 more cards I made using other images from the Bitty Baby Blessings stamp set.

On this one I used the bunny image, stamped it onto PT's Sweet Blush CS, then filled it in with white Fun Flock.

White flock tends to be more "transparent" so whatever color the image is stamped on shows through easily.

Pt_newsletter_may_21_by_amyr_8 For this one I used 2 different colors - Hazy Grey and Lavish Lilac - I stamped the elephant then applied glue to only the ear - applied the grey flock, pressed and tapped it off, then applied glue to the rest of the body and applied the lilac flock.

Pt_newsletter_may_21_by_amyr_13_2

And here's the full set! All three cards were pretty quick and easy but the added texture of the flock gives them all that extra "wow" factor. I hope y'all like them!!
