Time Flies and More Christmas Ornaments
WAH!!!! My baby is three years old today!!! I can't believe that three years have passed already - I can still remember the night I had Josie (at 5 minutes past midnight) like it was yesterday.
We had fun in the city yesterday. Bolt was a super-cute movie (that hampster was hilarious) - if you haven't seen it I totally recommend it. I didn't know it was a 3D movie till we were getting the tickets - it's digital 3D so you wear these dorky black frame glasses with clear lenses (not the red and blue ones like the old 3D movies!) - and is it ever COOL! LOL Tim and I totally loved it - it took some convincing to get Veronica to wear the glasses - but she finally caved and enjoyed the movie. Josie downright refused to put them on and just watched without (which was too bad b/c the movie is rather blurry without the glasses) but liked it anyway. I guess there are going to be a lot more digital 3D movies coming out in the near future (including a new Ice Age movie) - so we'll be going to those too - seriously you have to go at least once!! Trust me! *grin*
Anywho tho I have a bunch of house-cleaning and decorating to do. We're going to have a little birthday dinner and party for Josie and the family so I need to get things done!!
I do have some pictures tho to share of some new ornaments I made at the retreat a month ago - it's taken me till now to get pics of them:
I made these using the Sizzix Large Snowflake #2 die (in the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini) and lightweight chipboard coasters.
Technically the 4x4 coasters are just slightly too small - so the ends on two of the points have like a smidgen missing - but it's not noticeable.
I ran a ton of the coasters through my CuttleBug (one at a time of course!) with the die, then painted them three different colors.
.
.
I used a Adirondack Silver Paint dabber for the silver snowflakes - just spinging it on and not bothering to smooth it out. I wanted the textured look.
Once one side was dry I flipped it over and painted the other side.
While the paint was still wet I sprinkled silver glitter on it - it sticks well to the wet paint and still adheres after it's dry - nothing else is needed to make it "stick".
I used a gold paint dabber for the gold snowflakes (I am loving the metallic dabbers - the paint is really thick and pigmented - it doesn't take much to fully cover the surface - and definitely no second coat needed!) and sprinkled on gold glitter while the pain was still wet.
For the blue snowflakes I used navy acrylic paint ane painted them with a sponge brush. When they were dry I coated them with Mod Podge and poured on Crystal Glitter.
I used fishing line for hangers on all of them - that way you can't see them on the tree!
I love how they turned out - and FYI if you try these and use glitter be prepared to make a mess LOL! I had glitter EVERYWHERE - there were even little trails of it when I walked around. It was a messy project but so fun - I have been loving making a bunch of my own ornaments and ones like these are CHEAP to make - the lightweight coasters work out to .10 each, then the glitter and paint and fishing line (which I already had - or well Tim did!!) it can't be more than .20 each. I don't include the cost of the die b/c I can use it over and over again and for other things too!
OK this post took way longer than I planned - I need to run and start cleaning and make a cake of some sort!!!
